Key Responsibilities
As a Data Journalist, your responsibilities will include:
- Developing, researching, and crafting unique data-driven stories.
- Collecting, cleaning, and analyzing data using tools like Python or R.
- Visualizing data through various platforms, including mapping tools like QGIS and graphic software like Adobe Illustrator.
- Collaborating with editors to produce finalized stories for publication.
- Guiding and mentoring editorial teams in implementing data-driven journalism projects.
- Verifying and reviewing the data analysis conducted by other journalists.
- Teaching the fundamentals of data journalism to peers.
Ideal Candidate Profile
You should bring expertise in data journalism and creativity to this role.
Skills and Qualifications
- Proficiency in data analysis and visualization using Python or R.
- Strong skills in tools like Adobe Illustrator and mapping software such as QGIS.
- Familiarity with Git-based collaboration tools.
- Knowledge of HTML and CSS or motion graphics is advantageous.
- Exceptional storytelling skills across multiple platforms.
- High level of creativity, flexibility, and the ability to explain complex topics effectively.
Education and Experience
- At least five years of experience in data journalism, particularly in data acquisition, cleaning, and analysis.
- Regional expertise in African or Asian countries is a plus.
- English proficiency at a native level; knowledge of German or other languages is advantageous.
