Salary: AU$93,000 – AU$105,000 per annum (plus up to 15.4% superannuation)

CSIRO is seeking an Industrial Electrician to join the team working with the ASKAP (Australian SKA Pathfinder) radio telescope at the Murchison Radio-astronomy Observatory. Key Responsibilities
Electrical Systems Maintenance
- System Maintenance: Maintain and operate electrical systems including power distribution switchboards (up to 415V), antenna drive systems (DC and AC motors), refrigeration, and air conditioning equipment.
- Electrical Upgrades: Undertake repairs, upgrades, and installations of electrical systems, including switchboards and power distribution.
- Documentation: Contribute to documentation and system drawings, ensuring proper configuration management.
Site Support and Safety
- Site Travel: Travel regularly to the remote ASKAP radio telescope site (350km from Geraldton).
- Safety Inspections: Perform regular safety inspections and ensure all electrical equipment complies with safety standards.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with a small, multi-disciplinary team to ensure the efficient and safe operation of all systems at the observatory.
Fault Finding and Repairs
- Diagnosis: Apply your expertise to fault-finding and diagnosis of electrical systems, using your knowledge of mechanical, civil, and electrical drawings.
- Component Management: Ensure that electrical spares, components, and tools are well-stocked and maintained.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Qualifications
- Trade Qualifications: Relevant trade qualifications as an Electrician.
- Industrial Experience: Experience in maintaining and operating electrical systems, including power generation, distribution, servo drive systems, and refrigeration plant equipment.
- System Design: Knowledge in the design and installation of electrical systems to meet Australian electrical standards.
- Work Safety: Ability to operate elevated work platforms (EWPs) and perform work at heights (up to 25m).
- Communication: Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to use computer software for documentation and correspondence.
Desirable Qualifications
- Electrical Licence: A WA Electrical Licence.
- CAD Experience: Experience with computer-aided drawing (CAD) techniques and computer-based analysis.
- HV Switching: Willingness to be trained as a High Voltage (HV) switching operator.
- Additional Certifications: Qualifications in forklift operation, working at heights, and first aid.
Eligibility Criteria
- Citizenship: Open to Australian/New Zealand citizens and Australian permanent residents.
- Police Check: Appointment subject to a national police check and other security/medical/character requirements.
