Essential Functions of a Packager
Core Responsibilities
- Packaging Operations: Package powder, seal bags, and stack them on pallets.
- Forklift Operation: Operate forklifts and stack pallets. (Training available for those without experience.)
- Quality Assurance: Perform weight checks on packages and re-bag or restack powders as necessary.
- Cleanliness: Maintain a clean and organized packaging area to meet safety and quality standards.
- Safety and Sustainability: Promote safety, food safety, sustainability, and housekeeping practices.
- Compliance: Adhere to all safety, food safety, and environmental regulations, including USDA, FDA, SQF, and EPA requirements.
- Collaboration: Actively participate in team projects to improve production efficiency and metrics.
Additional Functions
- Regular and punctual attendance is essential.
- Participate in training sessions and maintain proficiency in operating equipment and following procedures.
- Report any safety or quality concerns to supervisors immediately.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications for the Packager Role
Skills and Knowledge
- Physical Capability: Ability to lift to 50 lbs, stand and walk for extended periods, and handle repetitive tasks.
- Technical Skills: Capable of using measuring instruments, performing basic math, and reading charts.
- Forklift Operation: Forklift experience is preferred; training is provided if necessary.
- Regulation Awareness: Knowledge of food safety, sustainability, and regulatory requirements.
- Communication: Proficiency in verbal and written English is required.
Experience and Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in food manufacturing or packaging is a plus.
- A solid safety, attendance, and punctuality record is essential.
Physical and Environmental Conditions
Physical Demands
- Frequently handle objects weighing 26-60 lbs.
- Occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.
