Key Responsibilities
Plumbing System Installation & Repair
- Install and Repair Systems: Install and repair water systems, piping, fixtures, and medical gas supply/distribution systems following blueprints and relevant codes.
- Maintain and Troubleshoot: Ensure that waste and vent lines function properly using tools like plumber’s snakes and vacuum plungers. Respond to plumbing issues and perform corrective repairs.
- Safety Inspections: Conduct plumbing safety inspections on backflow devices and ensure all plumbing work meets safety and code standards.
Preventive Maintenance and Emergency Response
- Routine Maintenance: Perform preventive maintenance to keep all plumbing systems running smoothly. Regularly inspect pipes, plumbing fixtures, and heating systems.
- Emergency Handling: Respond to plumbing emergencies, making repairs as needed to minimize downtime and avoid further damage.
- Collaborative Work: Work alongside other team members and contractors for larger projects and installations.
Training & Mentorship
- Staff Training: Train colleagues and other staff on basic plumbing maintenance and repair procedures to ensure team competency.
- Leadership and Mentoring: Share knowledge and mentor junior plumbers, fostering teamwork and improving the overall skill level of the maintenance team.
Compliance and Reporting
- Follow Procedures: Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies and guidelines while on the job.
- Report Issues: Regularly report on the condition of plumbing systems, including potential issues that could lead to safety risks or system failure.
Skills and Qualifications
Required Skills
- Plumbing Expertise: Extensive knowledge and experience in plumbing systems, repairs, and maintenance.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to diagnose complex plumbing issues and find effective solutions.
- Attention to Detail: Ensure all installations and repairs meet required codes and client specifications.
- Communication: Effectively communicate with clients and team members to ensure smooth operations.
- Microsoft Office Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Educational Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent: A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent job-related experience is required.
- Plumbing Certification: Journeyman-level plumbing certification required. Medical Gas and Backflow certifications are preferred.
- Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license is required.
Physical Requirements
- Manual Labor: Ability to stoop, stand, walk, climb ladders, and lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs).
- Endurance: Capable of working in various environments, often requiring bending, crawling, and working in confined spaces.
