Key Responsibilities
1. Supervising Sanitation Programs
- Lead and oversee sanitation operations to ensure compliance with federal and state sanitation laws, as well as plant standards.
- Directly supervise the sanitation team, ensuring that all cleaning and sanitation activities are performed efficiently and to the highest standards.
2. Inspection and Compliance
- Conduct regular inspections of equipment, products, and plant premises for sanitation issues, reporting any variances, and implementing corrective actions.
- Monitor compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and ensure that all sanitation activities align with company policies and legal requirements.
3. HACCP and Food Safety
- Ensure that sanitation activities related to HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points) are documented and executed correctly.
- Actively participate in the HACCP team and support the implementation of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) programs.
4. Environmental Monitoring and Pest Control
- Manage the Environmental Monitoring Program, ensuring that scheduled environmental swabs are completed and documented.
- Oversee the pest control program, ensuring that it meets both internal and external requirements.
5. Sanitation Scheduling and Documentation
- Develop and implement sanitation schedules and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that comply with plant standards and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure that all sanitation and pest control records are properly maintained and available for internal and external audits.
6. Staff Training and Leadership
- Train, mentor, and lead sanitation team members, providing clear guidance on quality and food safety standards.
- Work closely with other departments to ensure that cleaning schedules are well-coordinated with production activities.
Skills and Qualifications
Educational Background
- Bachelor’s Degree in a science-related field (Microbiology, Food Science, Dairy Science) preferred.
- Alternatively, 2+ years of high-level plant-based laboratory experience can be considered.
Experience
- At least 3-5 years of experience in a sanitation, quality assurance, or food safety role within a manufacturing or food production environment.
- Proven experience in leading sanitation teams and ensuring compliance with GMPs, HACCP, and food safety regulations.
Technical Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other computer-based applications; SAP experience is preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret sanitation and quality policies, and implement corrective actions for deficiencies.
Soft Skills
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop staff.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to ensure effective reporting and team collaboration.
- Ability to adapt to changing operational needs and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions Sanitation Supervisor
- The position involves exposure to wet, hot, humid, and cold temperatures, as well as moving machinery (including forklift traffic).
- The employee must have the ability to lift to 40 pounds independently and 50 pounds with assistance.
- The role also requires regular sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods.
