Responsibilities of the Senior Data Modeler

As a Senior Data Modeler, your role will involve working across various banking domains such as retail banking, business banking, risk, and capital markets. You’ll be responsible for the design and development of data models, ensuring that they align with the latest BIAN standards. Here are the primary responsibilities:

1. Designing and Developing Data Models

  • Create conceptual, logical, and physical data models for different banking segments.
  • Focus on aligning these models with BIAN standards, especially in retail banking, business banking, risk, and capital markets.

2. Collaboration with Stakeholders

  • Work closely with business stakeholders, data analysts, and developers to understand data requirements and convert them into effective data models.

3. Ensuring Adherence to Industry Standards

  • Make sure data models follow industry best practices, BIAN standards, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Keep models updated as business and regulatory requirements evolve in the banking domain.

4. Defining Data Architecture Principles

  • Develop and implement data architecture principles tailored to the banking sector on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Focus on requirements specific to banking areas like retail banking, business banking, and capital markets.

5. Data Integration and ETL Design

  • Work with IT teams to design data integration and ETL processes on GCP.
  • Ensure smooth data flow and integration across different data sources within the banking domain.

6. Selecting Data Storage and Database Technologies

  • Evaluate and select appropriate data storage and database technologies for banking data, particularly focusing on BigQuery for data-intensive applications.

7. Ensuring Data Security and Compliance

  • Ensure data security, privacy, and compliance with banking regulations, particularly for sensitive banking data.

8. Performance Monitoring and Optimization

  • Monitor and optimize data performance for banking applications on GCP, ensuring they meet the performance needs of various banking domains.

9. Mentorship and Guidance

  • Guide and mentor junior data modelers and analysts, particularly in BIAN standards, GCP technologies, and data modeling best practices.

10. Data Governance and Documentation

  • Participate in data governance initiatives and ensure models comply with banking regulations.
  • Document data models, architecture artifacts, and BIAN mappings specific to the banking sector.

Qualifications for the Senior Data Modeler

To be considered for this role, you need a blend of technical expertise and banking domain knowledge. Here are the required qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Experience: Over 15 years of experience in data modeling and architecture, particularly in the banking industry (retail banking, business banking, risk, and capital markets).
  • Expertise: In-depth knowledge of data modeling tools, techniques, and BIAN modeling standards.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong understanding of data warehousing, data integration, and ETL processes in banking.
    • Proficiency in databases like SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, and BigQuery.
