Key Responsibilities of a Truck and Coach Mechanic

As a Truck and Coach Mechanic at Certarus, your main responsibility will be to ensure that trucks and trailers in our fleet are properly maintained and repaired. Some of your key tasks will include:

  1. Maintenance and Repair of Trucks and Trailers:
    • Perform routine and emergency repairs on trucks and trailers, including diagnosing and fixing engine, electrical, and brake issues.
    • Repair or replace defective parts, components, or systems on trucks and trailers to keep them operational and safe.
    • Conduct both minor and major repairs on Cummins, Paccar engines, and Kenworth trucks.
  2. Diagnostic Testing and Troubleshooting:
    • Run diagnostic tests on engines and other vehicle systems to identify issues that require attention.
    • Use diagnostic tools and methods to troubleshoot problems with electrical systems, engines, and other mechanical components.
  3. Inventory Management and Parts Ordering:
    • Maintain an organized inventory of parts and tools, ensuring that necessary supplies are always on hand for repairs.
    • Order replacement parts as needed, ensuring the right parts are available to minimize downtime.
  4. Supporting Field Operations:
    • Occasionally, respond to service calls in the field by using a company-provided vehicle.
    • Report directly to the Timmins, Ontario Hub, while also providing field support as required by the business needs.
  5. Safety and Compliance:
    • Follow all safety procedures and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
    • Complete work in compliance with industry standards, keeping safety, quality, and environmental concerns at the forefront.
  6. Assisting Other Technicians:
    • Work as part of a team, assisting other technicians as necessary for more complex repairs or when workloads are heavy.
    • Help with various shop-related tasks as directed by the Regional Operations Manager/Supervisor.

Required Qualifications and Skills for the Truck and Coach Mechanic Role

The ideal candidate for the Truck and Coach Mechanic position will meet the following qualifications and skills:

  1. Experience:
    • A minimum of 2 to 5 years of experience in maintaining trucks and coaches, particularly with Cummins, Paccar engines, and Kenworth trucks.
    • Experience in diagnosing and repairing engines, electrical systems, and brake components is essential.
  2. Certifications:
    • 310S and 310T Certificates of Qualification are required for this role.
    • Red Seal Qualification is considered mandatory for this position.
  3. Technical and Diagnostic Skills:
    • Strong ability to diagnose and repair various mechanical and electrical issues in trucks and trailers.
    • Familiarity with diagnostic tools and software to assess vehicle health and troubleshoot issues efficiently.
  4. Organizational Skills:
    • Strong organizational and communication skills to manage inventory, order parts, and keep records of repairs.
    • Ability to work independently and efficiently while adhering to safety protocols and company procedures.
  5. Physical Ability:
    • Ability to lift heavy objects and perform repetitive movements as part of the job.
    • Ability to work in various conditions, including outdoor service calls and maintaining vehicles in a variety of settings.
  6. Additional Skills:
    • Basic computer skills are necessary, including the ability to use programs such as MS 365 and any necessary maintenance management systems.
    • Must be safety-conscious, a self-starter, and a team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
  7. Clear Background and Drug Screening:
    • Successful candidates must be able to pass a criminal background check, Fit-for-Duty assessment, and a drug and alcohol screening.
