Job Description
As a Merch Planner, you will focus on driving business performance through accurate forecasting and detailed analysis. Your key responsibilities will include working with various stakeholders to build and deliver category forecasts, improving sales and margin performance, and supporting inventory optimization initiatives. You will use tools like SQL, Excel, and Python to manage data, generate business insights, and collaborate across teams, including Merchandising, Supply Chain, and Marketing.

Key Responsibilities
1. Forecasting and Business Planning
- Work with the Director of Merch Ops Planning to develop forecasts for categories, focusing on sales, gross margin, and inventory.
- Build and deliver business plans for leadership teams in merchandising.
2. Data-Driven Insights and Strategy
- Leverage business and financial analysis skills to influence in-season management.
- Use data to optimize sales, gross margin, and inventory.
3. Action Planning and Gap Closing
- Facilitate action planning processes to close gaps in sales, margin, and inventory.
- Drive collaborative efforts to address performance gaps.
4. Reporting and Analysis
- Conduct ad-hoc analysis on category performance, promo effectiveness, and flyer performance.
- Communicate actionable insights and recommendations to key stakeholders.
5. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with merchandising, operations, marketing, and supply chain teams.
- Act as a key partner in cross-functional teams supporting various product categories.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Skills and Qualifications
- A quantitative post-secondary education (focus on statistics or mathematics is a plus).
- Technical proficiency in SQL, MS Excel, and MS Access; Python is an asset.
- Strong ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
- Proficiency in analytics, planning, and forecasting.
Experience
- 4+ years of progressive experience in financial analytics, planning, or merchandising functions.
- Experience working with large data sets and performing statistical analysis.
- Proven ability to adapt to a fast-paced, evolving environment.
