The Chief Building Engineer at CBRE is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of building systems and machinery. Key Responsibilities

Building Systems Maintenance

  • Preventive Maintenance: Develop and implement a preventive maintenance program to ensure that building systems (HVAC, fire alarms, plumbing) are functioning within design specifications and meet environmental conditions prescribed by the client.
  • Equipment Repair and Installation: Perform complex maintenance and repairs on industrial systems, equipment, and machinery, ensuring optimal performance and compliance with codes and regulations.
  • Work Orders and Scheduling: Lead operations and assign tasks, ensuring timely completion of work orders. Schedule preventive maintenance during downtime to minimize business interruptions.

Leadership and Team Management

  • Supervise and Train: Provide leadership and training to engineering staff, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and operational procedures.
  • Subcontractor Coordination: Manage relationships with subcontractors and arrange for additional resources as needed to complete maintenance tasks.
  • Emergency Response: Lead responses to emergencies and ensure that the necessary support is available to resolve issues quickly.

Operational Efficiency and Improvement

  • Innovative Solutions: Apply advanced knowledge to identify and implement new methods for improving building systems and maintenance processes.
  • Process Development: Contribute to the development of new processes, standards, and products that align with operational and customer objectives.
  • Cross-Disciplinary Expertise: Mentor and coach team members, fostering in-depth knowledge and expertise across various job disciplines within the organization.

Client Relations and Communication

  • Client Collaboration: Work closely with clients to understand their needs and ensure the building systems meet or exceed expectations.
  • Problem Solving: Utilize both standard and innovative solutions to solve unique problems with broad business impact.
  • Complex Communication: Effectively communicate complex ideas to influence decisions and maintain smooth operations across teams.

Skills and Qualifications

Required Skills

  • Leadership: Ability to lead, train, and manage a team of engineers and subcontractors, setting clear goals and expectations.
  • Building Systems Knowledge: Extensive experience with building systems, including HVAC, fire alarms, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve complex issues effectively.
  • Communication: Ability to communicate difficult concepts clearly to both internal teams and clients.
  • Microsoft Office Proficiency: Expertise in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Educational Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent: A high school diploma, GED, or trade school diploma is required. A combination of education and experience may also be considered.
  • Relevant Certifications: Certifications in building maintenance, HVAC, plumbing, or related fields are preferred.
  • Experience: 5-8 years of relevant experience, including supervisory or shift manager experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry heavy loads (up to 50 lbs) and perform tasks that require standing, stooping, and climbing.
