Key Responsibilities

Primary Duties

  • Program CMMs: Use CAD and the PC-DMIS software package to program and operate Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) for precise measurements and quality checks.
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Collect and analyze data to monitor production processes and ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Blueprint Reading: Interpret and read blueprints and engineering drawings to understand the required specifications for measurements.
  • GD&T Knowledge: Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to interpret and measure critical dimensions.
  • Destructive Testing: Conduct destructive testing on welds (e.g., draw cup) for correlation studies as required by engineering protocols.
  • Non-Conforming Materials: Identify, segregate, and manage non-conforming materials using inventory management processes.
  • Process Improvement: Collaborate with operations to analyze and resolve root causes of material issues, minimizing the occurrence of non-conforming materials.
  • Auditing and Documentation: Perform capability studies, audits, and assist with writing new work instructions, checklists, and operator instructions for new gages.
  • Customer Rejects: Assist in responding to 8D corrective actions related to customer rejects and quality issues.

Quality and Testing

  • Control Plan Audits: Perform periodic control plan audits, collaborating with engineers to update them as needed.
  • Dimensional Layouts: Conduct annual dimensional layouts as required by customers or for internal quality checks.
  • Process/Product Audits: Perform Process/Product and Layered Process Audits (LPA) to ensure product quality.

Skills and Qualifications

Required Skills

  • PC-DMIS and CAD: Ability to program and run CMM machines using the PC-DMIS software and CAD data.
  • Data Analysis: Strong skills in data collection, analysis, and interpretation using Statistical Process Control (SPC) tools.
  • Blueprint Reading: Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications.
  • GD&T Knowledge: In-depth understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Quality Auditing: Experience in performing quality audits, including capability studies and process audits.
  • Problem Solving: Strong analytical skills to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to non-conforming materials and quality discrepancies.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with CMM Machines: Experience programming and operating CMMs in a manufacturing or quality assurance setting.
  • Experience with 8D Methodology: Familiarity with 8D problem-solving techniques for customer rejects.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification in Quality, Manufacturing, or related fields is a plus.
  • Experience: At least 1-3 years of experience programming CMMs, quality assurance, or in a similar role within manufacturing or automotive industries.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing or shop floor environment.
  • Occasional standing, walking, and lifting (up to 25 pounds).
  • Ability to operate and work around CMM machines and other testing equipment.

Work Environment

  • Work primarily in a controlled manufacturing environment.
  • Potential exposure to machinery and industrial equipment.
  • Adherence to safety protocols and standards is required.
