This senior leadership role involves strategic oversight of taxation, treasury, client monies, and working capital management. As a key member of the Financial Services Leadership Team, you will collaborate with senior leaders to drive financial performance and operational excellence.

Purpose of the Role

The Finance Director will oversee the development and execution of the firm’s financial strategies. This includes managing taxation, treasury, cash flow, payroll, accounts payable, and client funds. Working closely with the CFO, Executive Leadership Team (ELT), and Managing Partners, the Finance Director will contribute to the firm’s success by ensuring robust financial management and supporting strategic decision-making across the firm.

Duties & Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Lead the development and execution of the firm’s financial strategy, focusing on tax, treasury, cash flow management, payroll, and client monies.
  • Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and reporting obligations.

Team Leadership and Management

  • Oversee the financial operations teams, ensuring they achieve strategic goals and implement operational improvements.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and development to team members, fostering a high-performance culture.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Establish trusted relationships with the ELT, Business Operations Chiefs, and senior stakeholders to influence change and support strategic initiatives.
  • Communicate the firm’s financial position and risks effectively to stakeholders.

Financial Reporting and Risk Management

  • Lead the preparation and audit of the firm’s annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with accounting standards.
  • Oversee tax reporting and implement strategies to optimize the firm’s tax position while ensuring regulatory compliance.

Operational Efficiency and Continuous Improvement

  • Drive improvements in cash flow forecasting models, working capital management, and financial reporting.
  • Champion the adoption of innovative systems and tools (including AI) to enhance decision-making and operational efficiencies.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

To be successful in the Finance Director role, you will need:

  • Experience: At least 10 years in a senior leadership role in financial operations, reporting, tax, treasury, and working capital management in professional services.
  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA, CA, or equivalent qualifications are essential.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven experience leading and engaging large national teams, with a track record of motivating and growing high-performing teams.
  • Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of Australian tax law, accounting principles, and compliance regulations.
  • Commercial Acumen: Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving abilities, and an entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and influence at all organizational levels.
