Job Description

As a Maintenance Technician at Silgan Plastics, you will be responsible for performing a wide range of repairs and preventative maintenance on production equipment. This includes working with electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, ensuring machinery operates efficiently and safely.

Key Responsibilities

1. Maintenance and Repairs

  • Perform repairs on electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems under the supervision of the maintenance manager.
  • Work with various types of equipment, including Jomar, Husky, Nissei, and Beckum.

2. Equipment Management and Parts Requests

  • Request necessary machine parts and equipment through the maintenance supervisor.
  • Ensure all work orders are accurately filled and classified for future reference.

3. Troubleshooting and Problem Solving

  • Diagnose and repair machinery issues promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Use schematics to troubleshoot and repair circuits and systems efficiently.

4. Preventative Maintenance

  • Perform scheduled maintenance on all production equipment to prevent breakdowns and improve longevity.
  • Identify any deficiencies in equipment and report them to the supervisor.

5. Safety Compliance

  • Adhere to safety protocols as outlined in the employee handbook, including lockout/tagout procedures, electrical code practices, and confined space access programs.
  • Communicate potential hazards and safety issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safety training guidelines.

6. Continuous Learning and Process Improvement

  • Learn and adapt to new equipment and processes as they evolve.
  • Contribute to process improvements to enhance operational efficiency.

7. Organizational Support

  • Assist with organizing and maintaining the maintenance areas and spare parts inventory.
  • Perform additional duties as required, such as mold changes or process adjustments.

Qualifications and Skills

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience in a maintenance role, particularly in electrical, mechanical, or pneumatic systems, is preferred.
  • Experience with plastics/packaging, extrusion, and blow molding equipment is a significant advantage.

Skills

  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to follow technical diagrams and schematics.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a team and communicate effectively.
  • Familiarity with safety practices and the use of personal protective equipment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and move heavy machinery components as needed.
  • Comfortable working in an environment that involves physical tasks and standing for extended periods.
