McCain Foods is hiring a Potato Grader in Coaldale, Alberta. The primary responsibility of the Potato Grader is to perform all tests required for grading raw materials, ensuring they meet the company’s quality standards. This includes conducting various tests such as raw grade, color test, specific gravity test, and bruise-free test. The role involves working closely with other departments, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring the safe operation of equipment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Grading Raw Materials

  • Perform tests such as raw grade, color test, specific gravity test, and bruise-free test to assess the quality of incoming raw materials.
  • Ensure all grading is performed accurately and under McCain Foods’ standards.

2. Documentation & Communication

  • Accurately document all test results and ensure paperwork is complete and submitted on time.
  • Communicate with the Field department about incoming trucks and product grading.

3. Equipment Operation

  • Operate grading equipment and tools safely and efficiently.
  • Work closely with production supervisors to discuss grading results.

4. Sanitation & Housekeeping

  • Perform routine sanitation tasks, including high-pressure washing, deep cleaning, and waste disposal to maintain a clean and safe work environment.

5. Shift Coverage & Teamwork

  • Ensure shift coverage when short-staffed and assist in maintaining smooth operations.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure seamless operations across departments.

6. Safety & Reporting

  • Report any unsafe conditions, product contamination risks, or machinery breakdowns to supervisors.
  • Participate in maintaining a safe and hazard-free work environment.

Qualifications and Skills

1. Education & Experience

  • Preference will be given to candidates with a minimum of Grade 12 education.
  • Previous experience in grading or similar roles is preferred but not required.

2. Required Skills

  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations for grading accuracy.
  • Good oral and written communication skills to document results and communicate with colleagues effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and follow detailed instructions.
  • Proven history of safe work habits and understanding of WHMIS for chemical handling.

3. Physical Requirements

  • Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be physically able to perform tasks such as standing, walking, and bending during shifts.
