Become part of Alberta Health Services (AHS) as a Therapy Assistant in the Recreation Therapy department. You’ll work collaboratively with healthcare professionals to provide rehabilitation services, improve client care, and contribute to quality healthcare delivery.

Job Description

As a Therapy Assistant, you will:

  • Work under the guidance of professionals such as physiotherapists, occupational therapists, recreation therapists, and speech-language pathologists.
  • Support direct and indirect client care across various stages of health (from healthy living to end-of-life care).
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners, maintaining professionalism and ethical standards.
  • Engage in reflective learning to enhance individual and team competencies.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, program planning, and student supervision.

Key Responsibilities

Client Care and Rehabilitation

  • Assist therapists in delivering treatment plans and rehabilitation services for patients.
  • Provide therapeutic activities and interventions that align with patient goals.
  • Support patient mobility, exercise programs, and equipment use.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Work collaboratively with interprofessional teams to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.

Administrative Support

  • Maintain accurate records of therapy sessions and patient progress.
  • Ensure equipment and therapy spaces are clean, organized, and well-maintained.

Professional Development

Ideal Candidate Profile

Skills and Qualifications

  • Completion of a diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation therapy assistant program.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and maintain professionalism in a team environment.

Experience

  • Previous experience in a therapy assistant role is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to various patient needs and healthcare settings.
